Knuffle Bunny: A Personal Favorite

Image result for knuffle bunnyMo Willems' Knuffle Bunny is a family favorite. In my house we call all of our stuffed animals Knuffles. That is how much we absolutely adore this tale. It tells the story of Trixie and her beloved stuffed animal who become separated whilst running errands. Its a classic tale that many families who have panicked over misplaced "knuffles" can relate to. What makes this book so special though are the clever little details that Willems includes. His illustrations are simple yet so expressive and really funny and oh so relatable. On one page he even features the Pigeon from his other series. His pacing of the text makes it easy to narrate to a child with suspense and humor. So, while it's an easy book for young children to comprehend, the nuances make it entertaining to read as an adult. In this particular series I love how he uses photographs from his old neighborhood and then overlays them with the illustrations. It's visually uncluttered and attractive and really draws you into the world. The book also features both the mother and the father as central and nurturing characters and shows how frustrating it can be for a child to communicate without words. Overall , its sweet and funny and a modern classic.
