Where The Sidewalk Ends: The Fun Begins!

I LOVED these poems as a kids and I might love them more as an adult. Silverstein's poems are sweet yet twisted and this collection has a perfect mix of silly poems, scary poems, poems about love, and some poems with more nuanced humor that makes reading them with a child all the more fun. Silverstein is very clever with wordplay and his simple pen drawings add to the atmosphere he creates of fantasy. This book is a great way to introduce kids to poetry as he appeals to the grossness and goofiness that kids love while also making use of different forms of poetry. I highly recommend this book as a bedtime story for parents to introduce children to poetry at a young age, and for kids to revisit on their own around second grade or so.
