Treasury of Children's Poetry: Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf

While the book overall has a myriad of different types of poems for young children, this one is my favorite. It ropes kids into poetry by retelling the beloved story of Little Red Riding Hood but it poem form. I love this because it shows kids that stories can take any shape or form. It also utilizes the format to include some really clever wordplay. Finally, there is a twist ending that ends on a very dark joke. Its classic Roald Dahl and a very clever poem. I recommend the book as a whole for its variety but I highly recommend this poem in particular to kids ages five and up to get kids hooked on poetry and the humor and stories and nuance it can have.  Title: Treasury of Children's Poetry: Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf Author: Roald Dahl Publisher: Hutchinson Publication Date: Unknown ISBN: 0-09-176748-2 Elly's Rating: 5/5 stars
